Web Slings

About Lift-It®

We manufacture Web Slings, nylon web slings, for companies and organizations that require the highest quality available in heavy lifting applications. We have earned a reputation for quality, service and innovation by providing heavy duty nylon slings for the crane, rigging and material handling industries for over thirty-four years. Our polyester and nylon lifting straps are used by the world’s leading companies in the energy generation, mining, aerospace, transportation and manufacturing industries. We can custom make web slings, nylon web slings to meet your lifting needs.

Synthetic lifting slings and straps like all industrial lifting slings have limitations. It is important for responsible sling users to realize that chain slings, wire rope slings and wire mesh slings all have their place for proper use and application. Polyester and heavy duty nylon lifting slings have two primary limitations: they are easily damaged by cutting and abrasion and they are susceptible to damage from heat above 194 degrees (F)/90 degrees (C). Chain Slings and Wire Rope Slings offer higher temperature limits of 400 degrees (F). Uncoated wire mesh slings can be used at temperatures of 550 degrees (F) with no reduction in sling work load limits. Heavy duty lifting straps made from webbing, like all lifting slings must be protected from cutting and abrasion by materials of sufficient strength, thickness and construction.

Our web site and Rigging Resource Guide feature many innovative devices that will afford the responsible sling user protection, see Sling Protection Remember there is no such device that is cut proof! Sling protection against cutting is different than that used to protect against abrasion. Abrasion pads and sleeves do not provide protection against polyester web and nylon sling cutting damage. Polyester and nylon web slings are lightweight, flexible and have wider bearing surfaces to prevent damage to the load.

About Our Web Slings

Many different designs are available and the most popular are endless nylon slings and eye and eye lifting slings. Polyester and nylon endless slings allow the user to rotate the sling connection and load contact points. Eye and Eye slings are available in flat eye or half twist eye designs. Half twist eyes allow for a more efficient choker hitch. All nylon and polyester sling eyes are wrapped with additional material at the bearing points of the sling eyes to prevent damage at the connection points, enhancing the sling life cycle. Other heavy duty rigging slings like Reversed Eye slings and Wide Body Cargo slings are also readily available. Endless, Eye and Eye and Reversed Eye lifting straps can be used in all three hitches: choker, vertical and basket. Wide Body Cargo slings should only be used in a basket hitch and never in choker or vertical hitch applications.

Heavy duty nylon slings and straps used by the crane and rigging industry offer stretch characteristics that can be desirable at times to help to reduce the effects of shock loading. Nylon slings stretch at approximately 6-8% at work load limit. If stretch and elongation are not a suitable characteristic, then sling users can opt for a polyester sling with approximately half the stretch of a nylon lifting sling. When polyester slings are not available, users can always use a nylon sling with a much larger capacity then is required to minimize stretch, if so desired.

Lift-It® offers many web slings grades, styles and heavy duty nylon sling and polyester hoist strap configurations to suit various industrial, crane and rigging requirements. Sling webbing is available in nylon and polyester materials. In addition, Lift-It® offers Polyester Max Edge™ rigging slings which feature a more durable edge. The extra coating found on the edges of industrial lifting slings fabricated with Polyester Max-Edge™ make the lifting sling more resistant to abrasion, NOT more cut resistant. In addition to Endless, Eye and Eye, Reversed Eye and Wide Body Cargo slings, Lift-It® offers industrial rigging slings that feature metal end fittings and the most extensive line of polyester and nylon sling bridle assemblies available. Choker Hardware slings allows sling users to use the sling in all three hitches: choker, vertical and basket. Basket Hardware slings can be used in vertical and basket hitches only. The metal fittings used in Choker Hardware slings and Basket Hardware slings are fabricated from alloy steel or aluminum materials.

Responsible sling, or web sling users must select the material that is best suited for the mechanical and environmental factors encountered during use. Polyester and Nylon Bridle sling assemblies feature single or multiple legs for the efficient rigging of loads with fixed lifting points. Generally master links are used as a top collector, but master links with subassemblies provide improved performance for bridle slings featuring more than two sling legs. Combinations of links, hooks and shackles can be combined to achieve the rigging goals needed in the industrial rigging and material handling industries.

Why Choose Lift-It®?

Lift-It® offers the most complete line of specialty slings, custom slings and made to order slings available for the rail, mining, energy, wind, transportation, aerospace, manufacturing, crane and rigging industries. Municipal and Government entities also have access to the vast array of drum slings, gas cylinder slings, tool bags, remote release slings, adjustable slings, heavy duty industrial tow straps, glass handling slings and hose handling slings. If what you see on our web site is not what you require, the professionals as Lift-It® Manufacturing will design a custom sling assembly to your specifications.

All slings have their limitations. Consider a polyester roundsling or a Twin-path® sling as an alternative when polyester web slings or nylon web slings are wider than 4 inches and 4 ply thick. Because polyester round sling and Twin-Path® slings feature a body made up of multiple wraps of polyester yarn they do not choke lock. Only the finest materials are used to produce our polyester and nylon slings. These discriminating requirements and the skill of our dedicated, fabrication specialists, with combined experience, which must be expressed in terms of centuries, results in the finest sling and rigging products available. We have always had stringent quality control procedures. Our commitment to excellence was further demonstrated as Lift-It® successfully passed its registration audit and was registered by SAI Global for ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100B:2009, Quality Management Systems-Regulations for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations. Excellence is our standard, not our goal.

Eye & Eye Slings

Eye and Eye slings can be used in choker, vertical and basket hitches. Slings with Half Twist (Type 4) eyes are furnished unless Flat (Type 3) eyes are specified. Sling eyes will be wrapped at the bearing point unless otherwise specified. Eye & Eye nylon & polyester lifting slings featuring flat eyes can be used in all three hitches: choker, vertical and basket. Heavy duty nylon rigging slings featuring the Flat Eye and Eye design are made in widths ranging from as narrow as 1 inch and as wide as 12 inches. All Lift-It® Flat Eye & Eye slings feature protection at the sling eye bearing points. The extra protection wrapped around the sling eye provides additional service life as this is a critical wear area for all polyester and nylon rigging slings. Sling eyes are automatically tapered to a narrower width on Eye and Eye lifting slings that are over 3 inches in width. At Lift-It we do not charge extra to taper the eyes for your 2 inch wide rigging straps. Flat Eye, Eye and Eye nylon lifting slings used by crane and rigging customers around the world provide for the lowest profile eye available. Low profile eyes make sling removal easier when tight clearances are unavoidable. Nylon rigging slings that feature flat eyes are also referred to as double eye slings or Type 3 slings. If a more supple body composition is desired consider using Lift-It® polyester roundslings in the eye and eye style. Eye & Eye polyester round slings are formed by passing an exterior sleeve over the strands of the polyester roundsling. If a 200% load test is required on your slings please contact our sales team prior to ordering, 909-469-2251.

Endless Sling

One of the most versatile nylon web slings available, Endless slings can be rotated to provide an infinite number of contact points for the ends of the endless lifting strap and where the endless sling lift strap contacts the load. Endless hoisting slings and straps are for use in choker, vertical and basket hitches. Endless sling strap ends can be tapered and reinforced on request. Endless polyester and nylon sling straps are also referred to as continuous loop slings, type 5 slings and/or grommet slings. Lift-It® Endless slings are available in either nylon or polyester webbing, polyester is the standard material on all models. The length of an endless web sling is measured pull to pull or bearing to bearing on the ends of the endless nylon lift strap, not circumferentially. Polyester web and Nylon web endless slings are formed by overlapping the ends of the heavy duty webbing to form a load carrying splice. It is recommended when using endless sling straps that the load carrying splice NOT be placed into the load or lift connection points. Likewise, when Endless slings are used in a choker hitch it is recommended that the load carrying splice be placed above the choker point and below the lifting fixture. If an endless sling configuration is desired that does not feature a load carrying splice, we’d recommend the use of a polyester roundsling. Polyester round slings are also sometimes referred to as spansets. If a 200% load test is required on your slings please contact our sales team prior to ordering, 909-469-2251.

Reversed Eye Slings

Reversed Eye slings are nylon web slings which feature sling eyes and body that are covered by Bulked Nylon, also referred to as Cordura®, wear pads. Bulked Nylon wear pad material is four times more abrasion resistant than webbing used in regular nylon lifting slings, but provides no protection against cutting. The Reversed Eye lift strap is also referred to as a Return Eye sling. Since the body of Reversed Eye slings is based upon an endless sling design, the web strap eye is one half the overall body width. The sling eye can further be reduced by tapering the sling eye before installing the Cordura® wear pads on each side of the sling body. When you receive the Reversed Eye sling, the sling capacity tag is on the side OPPOSITE the working face or load contact surface of the sling. Responsible sling users in the sling, rigging and material handling industries always inspect the sling before each use. When abrasion is detected that does not penetrate into the load bearing sling webbing the sling user can rotate or “reverse” the sling eyes, which also provides a new bearing surface on the sling body. The bearing points of Reversed Eye hoisting sling-Standard (Type 6) eyes are 90° to the web sling body. The perpendicular relationship between the eye and body in a Reversed Eye lifting sling-Standard (Type 6) results in a better choke hitch, when compared to the Reversed Eye hoisting sling-Flat (Type 7). The Reversed Eye sling-Flat (Type 7) body is turned 180°, forming an eye, in the same plane as the sling body. The type 7 or flat Reverse Eye web sling is not frequently made, but provides a lower profile lifting sling for removal when space is limited. Type 6 and Type 7 Reversed Eye web slings can be used in choker, vertical or basket hitches. Standard widths for Reversed eye nylon web slings range from 2 inches to 6 inches. On request we can manufacture 8, 10 and 12 inch wide Reverse Eye lifting slings. Stock numbers for Reverse Eye slings do not reflect the overall sling width, but refer to the width of the component webbing, laid side by side to form up the body of the Reversed Eye lifting strap. An example would be, RE2-902 which would be the call out for a Reversed Eye web sling that is made from heavy duty nylon sling material (9800 Lbs. unsewn tensile strength- Class 7), 2 inches wide and two ply thick. The 2 inch material is sewn into an endless web sling configuration with the strands of the endless set side by side. After the eye buffers have been sewn to each side of the sling eye, 4 inch material is used to finish the fabrication of the nylon lifting sling. Sometimes it’s a hard sell to convince sling users that it is a better investment to spend more for a Reversed Eye sling. Reversed Eye web slings are roughly twice the price of an equivalent strength Eye and Eye sling. The combination of wear resistant materials, coupled with the ability to change out the bearing surfaces on the sling eyes and bodies make the Reversed Eye hoisting strap, the nylon sling of choice for professionals in the heavy duty sling, rigging and crane industries.
